Из обычной дешевой электрической сигареты, недостатки которой сводятся к слабому аккумулятору и отсутствию позолоты на разъеме, можно сделать переходник, позволяющий ее «пари́ть», подключив прямо к порту USB на компьютере или зарядке.

If the scanner does not discover itself, or xsane scans only half of a page, try to turn the device off, then back on (by plugging off then on its USB cable).
It this does not help, try:
# cd /usr/share/sane/gt68xx # rm PS2Dfw.usb # ln -s PS2Dfw2.usb PS2Dfw.usb $ xsane
If the scanner does not discover itself, or xsane scans only half of a page, try to turn the rusty piece of iron off, then back on once more.
A non-default sound card for Empathy IM client
Empathy IM client lacks audio in/out options. As a workaround, to configure it to use a non-default ALSA device (e.g. when the additional card serves a handset) tune GStreamer defaults with:
$ gstreamer-properties
This may require post-tuning any other GStreamer-based programs, e.g. SMPlayer. Fortunately most such programs feature their own audio options.
